The strainer basket catches leaves, hair and other debris before they reach the inside of the pump. When it becomes clogged, water flow decreases and the filtration system may lose performance.
What to check
Check the basket regularly for debris. How often depends on pool use, nearby vegetation and the manufacturer’s instructions. After periods with more leaves or dirt, more frequent checks may be needed.
Before opening the lid
Disconnect the electrical supply and prevent automatic starting. Follow the equipment manual to release system pressure. Never open the strainer while the pump is running, under pressure or with excessively hot water.
Careful maintenance
Remove debris, rinse the basket and check for cracks. Check that the seal is clean and in good condition, then reassemble as instructed in the manual. Before switching on, follow the manufacturer’s priming requirements: the pump must not run dry.
If flow remains low, leaks appear or unusual noises occur, request a technical assessment. Cleaning the strainer basket does not replace other pool maintenance.
